Legal Assistant/Receptionist

Department: Administration
Location: Richmond, VA

Sands Anderson is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and client-focused Legal Assistant/Front Office Receptionist to join our Richmond office. This dynamic position supports two litigation attorneys and provides firm-wide administrative assistance. The ideal candidate is proactive, professional, and thrives in a fast-paced legal environment.

Non-Exempt Position paying $22/hour to $25/hour.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general administrative tasks including file opening/closing, scanning, copying, faxing, and billing.
  • Manage incoming/outgoing mail, couriers, and packages.
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings, appointments, travel arrangements, and visitor logistics.
  • Prepare, revise, proofread and format correspondence, legal documents, presentations and reports.
  • Monitor and track deadlines, court dates and critical filing requirements.
  • Assist with discovery, document management and case preparation.
  • Edit time entries, process check requests and expense reimbursements.
  • Coordinate court filings, including electronic filing (ECF) in state and federal courts.
  • Greet and assist visitors with professionalism and warmth.
  • Answer and direct incoming calls to appropriate departments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception area.
  • Assist with data entry, document organization, and record maintenance.
  • Provide general information and support to clients and visitors.
  • Serve as professional liaison between attorneys, clients, courts, vendors and opposing counsel.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client matters and firm business.

Qualifications & Skills

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a legal administrative role.
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong proofreading and formatting abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with PowerPDF or Adobe; experience with Microsoft Teams is a plus.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Availability to work Monday–Friday, 8:15 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.
